Manchester City has officially announced the signing of Spaniard Sergio Gomez from Anderlecht to support his left defense and replace Oleksandr Zinchenko, who left for Arsenal in a big deal.

The Russian left-back had moved to the London club for £32, and City tried to sign Marc Cucurella from Brighton, but he did not manage to outsmart Chelsea, who signed the player recently.

League champion announced on his official website that Gomez signed a contract that extends for the next 4 seasons, but without revealing the financial details, while the follow-up sources estimated the value of the deal at 11 million pounds, with another amount related to performance and results.

The 21-year-old started his football career with the La Masia academy in Barcelona before leaving to Borussia Dortmund in 2018. He played on loan for two seasons with Huesca, before moving to Anderlecht, where he played under the leadership of former City captain Vincent Kompany, assisted 15 goals and was crowned the best player of the team.

The player expressed his great happiness to join City and work under Guardiola’s leadership, saying, “City is the best team in England and I will have the opportunity to learn and develop under Guardiola, the best coach in the world.”

“Joining this team is a dream come true, and any young player would wish for it. The number of titles that City have won in recent years is amazing and their style of play under Guardiola’s leadership is the most enjoyable in Europe, playing with a team led by Pep would be very special.”

It is noteworthy that Gomez will wear the number 21 shirt with City, which was worn by Ferran Torres before his move to Barcelona last January.
