The official account of the Spanish club Real Madrid on the social networking site “Twitter” mocked Manchester City’s award for the best club in the world for 2022.
Manchester City won the award for the best club in the world for 2022 during the Ballon d’Or gala organized by the French magazine “France Football”, which was held on Monday evening in Paris.
While everyone expected Real Madrid to win the award for the best club in the world for 2022, mainly due to their superiority over Manchester City and Liverpool in the Champions League, the surprise was that the Royal Club came third behind the English duo.
Real Madrid fans on social media mocked Manchester City’s award, and the royal club’s account ignited matters even more, when it placed an emoji for eyes that feel surprised on the picture of the team’s players celebrating the passage to the Champions League final at the expense of Manchester City.
Real Madrid’s account later deleted the photo, but in fact it was taken by several Spanish newspapers, led by Marca.
Kroos mocks and Casillas criticizes
Royal Club midfielder Toni Kroos wrote through his account on the “Instagram” social networking site, commenting on the award arrangement: “The third best team in 2021-22, Real Madrid is happy?”.
On the other hand, Kroos congratulated his colleagues Karim Benzema and Thibaut Courtois, after the first received the Golden Ball for the best player in the world, and the second was crowned with the Lev Yashin Award for the best goalkeeper.
“It’s not bad to have the best player and best goalkeeper in the world in a team,” Kroos wrote. “Congratulations to Benzema and Courtois, well deserved.”
For his part, Iker Casillas, the legend of Real Madrid, expressed his indignation and surprise at the awards, and wrote through his account on the “Twitter” social networking site: “These awards are a joke,” then added sarcastically: “Congratulations to Real Madrid for third place.”
In addition, Casillas was highly critical of not including Courtois among the top three players in the world, writing: “I am happy for Courtois, he is the best goalkeeper in the world. Those who choose the prizes.”
Benzema supports his club
Benzema gave an interview to the Spanish radio network “SER”, during which he did not care much about Real Madrid’s third place in the ranking of the best club in the world.
“Real Madrid is always the best club in the world, so they can give that award to whoever they want,” the Frenchman said.
